Houston DWI School
The state of Texas orders all DWI offenders to participate in a drug and alcohol program certified by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Even if this is only your first DWI, you still must attend this DWI school to get your license back and put yourself back in good standing with the court.
Depending on your circumstances, there are different program options for different DWI offenders:
- Texas DWI Education Program
- This program is 12 hours in length and is required for all first offenders. The program must be completed within 180 days from the date of probation being granted. Failure to complete the program within the 180 day time period will result in a license revocation. An extension can be given for certain circumstances.
- Texas DWI Repeat Offender Program
- If this is your second DWI, you will have to complete this program of 32 hours in length. This program is more intense and includes a 12-Step Self-Help Group, treatment options, and methods to control relapse.
- Texas Drug Offender Education Program
- If your license is revoked for six months or more, you must complete this 15-hour program which is designed to educate offenders about the dangers of drug abuse. If ordered to do this program your license will not be reinstated until you finish.
- Alcohol Education Program For Minors Program
- All minors convicted of a DWI charge are required to complete this program within 90 days of the date of conviction. If this course is not available in your area, the minor must complete 8-12 hours of community service.
These programs are designed to educate offenders about the dangers of alcohol and drug use and prevent future DWI offenses. Your license will remain suspended or restricted until you finish your program. Any questions regarding these programs or license restrictions can be directed to the Houston DWI lawyer.
